Juliet is an idiotic, unaware bimbo, and Nick is a frustrated, frightened, impatient high schooler who just has to deal with her. Almost every word out of Nick’s mouth made me laugh out loud because he’s written well. ![]() His banter is one of the only constants in Lollipop Chainsaw. He’s confused, incapable of contributing much, and quick with a witty joke. Of course, the guy can’t do much more than color commentary since he’s nothing more than a disembodied head strapped to Juliet’s waist. A few hours into the five-hour story I was sick of hearing anyone say anything - except for Nick, Juliet’s boyfriend. The exhausting vulgarity is amusing early on but grows annoying shortly afterward. When shocking and titillating the player take precedent over the core gameplay loop, we have problems. Bombers that contain an aerial refueling fleet support intercontinental strategic operations for both heavy bombers and smaller aircraft. Aircraft such as the Mirage 2000, F-15E, A-5 Vigilante, Sea Harrier, or FB-111 were tasked with land or sea-based strategic nuclear attack missions. If dispersed in small airfields or aboard an aircraft carrier, they can reasonably avoid a counterstrike giving them regional second-strike capacity. For example, a bomber armed with AGM-129 ACM missiles could be classified as a first-strike weapon and bombers that are classified as an aerial refueling aircraft would constitute as a second-strike weapon. Bombers can serve as both a first- and second-strike weapon. ![]() Furthermore, bombers that are scrambled might intensify tension and arouse suspicion of an upcoming nuclear strike. During an event, an enemy could suspect that a conventionally-armed bomber was actually carrying a nuclear weapon, encouraging the enemy to attack the bomber or make a nuclear strike. Bombers can hold both nuclear and conventional weapons. Some disadvantages include confusion on the type of payload. Since bombers are recallable, sending them away from a potential target is a highly visible way of demonstrating to enemies and allies that a nation wants to resolve a fight, thus preventing war. They have greater flexibility in their deployment and weaponry, and can be quickly deployed and recalled in response to last-minute decisions. Strategic bombers are the first leg of the triad. It also gives the commander-in-chief the flexibility to use different types of weapons for the appropriate strike while also maintaining a reserve of nuclear weapons safe from a counter-force strike. Having three legs also protects against new technology, like an enemy missile-defense system. The United States built its triad to maximize the probability that it could retaliate for a first strike. The triad enables a nation to deliver a nuclear attack by land, sea or air. They are classified under an umbrella of vessels and submarines that are capable of launching a ballistic missile. Ballistic missile submarines ( SSBNs): Nuclear missiles launched from ships or submarines.Land-based missiles ( MRBMs or ICBMs): Delivery vehicles powered by a liquid or solid-fueled rocket that primarily travel in a ballistic (free-fall) trajectory.Bomber aircraft: Aircraft carrying nuclear bombs, or nuclear-armed cruise missiles, for use against ground or sea targets.Only the United States and Russia have maintained strong nuclear triads for most of the nuclear age. While traditional nuclear strategy holds that a nuclear triad provides the best level of deterrence from attack, most nuclear powers do not have the military budget to sustain a full triad. It is a well-developed head lettuce with a history of production in the Salinas area, so it has adapted to local growing conditions. JM: Romaine is a relatively easy crop to grow. Q: What are the biggest benefits and challenges to growing romaine versus other greens? From late October to April, we grow in the Imperial Valley of California, Sonora (Mexico), and Arizona. From mid-April to mid-November, we grow romaine in California from Gilroy to San Ardo in the Santa Clara and Salinas Valleys. Q: Where are romaine hearts grown and when? ![]() We transplant little romaine plants in areas where weeds can out-grow crops and limit growth/yields soil type is heavy and may not allow for germinated seeds to break through soil or early or late in the season to ensure a good stand of crops for seasonal rotation.Ĭheck out this video from one of our growers about how we cultivate romaine hearts. We direct seed on ranches where we do not anticipate issues with germination, field conditions or weather. Both pieces of equipment are attached to the back of a tractor and driven across beds intended for planting. All planting is essentially mechanized by using a direct seeder or a transplanter. JM: How we plant romaine varies based on a few factors: primarily, the grower preference (transplants or direct seeding), seasonal timing (spring and fall plantings) and soil and water conditions on a given ranch. Q: How is romaine lettuce planted and cultivated? John McKeon (JM) – once our head of supply and now our Director of Organic Integrity – spoke to us about the fascinating world of romaine hearts. Why romaine hearts? Because it is a particularly manual process, which you’d probably never guess when you reach for the convenient, perfectly trimmed and delicious 3-pack in the market. Today, we explore the journey of romaine hearts. But because they are now so readily available, it’s easy to lose sight of everything that goes into getting those beautiful greens on produce shelves. In fact, this convenience is something that Earthbound Farm helped pioneer. This chart is drawn from an article titled, “Lettuce Trends: Conventional, Organic Growth, and Production,” from USDA, Economic Research Service’s Vegetables and Pulses Outlook, April 2023.These days, we as consumers are incredibly lucky to have the convenience of fresh organic greens year-round. From spring through fall, local production in most other States serves farmers markets, regional/local retail and restaurant demand, and community-supported agriculture. ![]() From late April through mid-November, production shifts to Central California. Shipments of lettuce from Florida help fill in regional market gaps during winter and spring months. From mid-November through early April, most lettuce sold in the United States is sourced from the irrigated desert valleys of Southern California’s Imperial County and the Yuma area of Arizona. While production of lettuce occurs year-round, areas of production shift with the growing seasons. An estimated 85 percent of the lettuce available for consumption in the United States was produced domestically in 2022. They’re considered an excellent brush choice for oil painters who create textured, impasto effects in their work. Hogs bristle brushes are most useful when artists want a stiff, sturdy brush that can withstand repeated cleanings and heavy use with thick paint. Marten fur is also one of the softest natural bristles, but it’s not as durable as hog bristle brushes. Squirrel bristles are very popular among oil painters because they’re considered a good alternative to red sable fur. But other types of fur have been known to work just as well for artists’ brushes – including squirrel, goat, badger, or marten. In fact, the American sable population has dropped from more than 1 million in 1930 to 188,000 today. However, sable hair has been an endangered species since 2004 due to over-harvesting. This means that when painting with watercolors, you need less water on your brush before dipping into a paint mixture – saving you time and ensuring you get the best results possible from your paint. What makes sable’s unique is that it has tapered hairs around one central shaft, allowing them to hold more liquids in its belly than other synthetic fibers. The finest paintbrushes are made from red sable fur these brushes can be identified by their very fine points, which allow them to produce the thinnest lines possible without compromising brush durability. The primary fruit note is strawberry, but it’s more abstract than literal – like a pop-art painting of a strawberry. Spray it on and you’ll smell a facsimile of a fruit tart from a French bakery: berries arranged just so and glistening with apricot jam. Butterfly, instead, was content to be pretty. Before that, paper folding for play was known by a variety of names, including "orikata" or "origata" (折形), "orisue" (折据), "orimono" (折物), "tatamigami" (畳紙) and others. Until recently, not all forms of paper folding were grouped under the word origami. ![]() The Japanese word origami itself is a compound of two smaller Japanese words: "ori" (root verb "oru"), meaning to fold, and "kami", meaning paper. The principles of origami are also used in stents, packaging, and other engineering applications. Traditional Japanese origami, which has been practiced since the Edo period (1603–1867), has often been less strict about these conventions, sometimes cutting the paper or using nonsquare shapes to start with. In general, these designs begin with a square sheet of paper whose sides may be of different colors, prints, or patterns. The best-known origami model is the Japanese paper crane. The small number of basic origami folds can be combined in a variety of ways to make intricate designs. The term "origata" is one of the old terms for origami. In Japan, ceremonial origami is generally called "origata" ( ja:折形) to distinguish it from recreational origami. In the detailed Japanese classification, origami is divided into stylized ceremonial origami (儀礼折り紙, girei origami) and recreational origami (遊戯折り紙, yūgi origami), and only recreational origami is generally recognized as origami. Origami folders often use the Japanese word kirigami to refer to designs which use cuts. ![]() Modern origami practitioners generally discourage the use of cuts, glue, or markings on the paper. The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. In modern usage, the word "origami" is often used as an inclusive term for all folding practices, regardless of their culture of origin.
